Tipi hire FAQs

Should I hire a stretch tent or a tipi?

  • Tipis are an ideal centrepiece and main event space. For dancing, live music, public speaking etc, the looks and space of a kata tipi will elevate proceedings to the next level. Stretch tents can be used for this too, but they are ideal as a secondary, more communal space - ideal for dining, chatting and relaxing with friends.

How many people fit in each tipi seated?

  • Each kata tipi accommodates up to 60 people seated. We offer a range of wooden tables and benches to optimise the space inside.

How many people fit in each tipi standing?

  • Each kata tipi accommodates up to 100 people standing, with no furniture.

How many tipis do I need for my Wedding?

  • For an intimate wedding one tipi is enough, however for most weddings we find two tipis is a good starting point. This allows for up to 200 guests (standing) or 120 seated, and provides plenty of flexibility when it comes to layout - for example tables and benches for the guests, plus a stage for speeches and live music, a bar and a fire pit/outside tables for relaxing afterwards.

  • For larger weddings we can continue to up the number of tipis as well as provide stretch tents and other extra structures.

Do you cover the whole of Wales?

  •  We do. As Welsh boys ourselves, we love an opportunity to return to our homeland, and luckily it’s only a stone’s throw from our base in Bristol! We’ve provided tipis all the way from Swansea to Snowdonia via Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye, and we’re always keen to come back for more.

Do you cover the whole of England?

  • We do! We’ve travelled the length and breadth of England, from Dorset and Devon over to Norfolk and up to Cumbria and even the Scottish borders and we’re eager to visit more corners of the UK.

How can I heat the tipi?

  • Tipis can be heated with one of the purpose-built fire pits designed for that purpose. These provide a beautiful centrepiece for the space, and burn special smokeless logs which don’t stain the canvas. For larger installs it is also an option to use gas-powered space heaters, which we can arrange to hire.

How many tipis can be linked?

  • There is no limit to how many kata tipis can be linked together. The only limits are the size of the venue and your imagination! The most we have linked at one time before is six, but we are eager to break this record.

How much space does a tipi need?

  • Each tipi is 10.3 metres in diameter with the sides down. With the sides raised this increases to 13 metres. For larger combinations of tipis we recommend a site visit to ensure there is plenty of space.

Do you provide flooring?

  • Yes! For weddings and parties we use Dandy Dura® matting which is tough while being easy on the feet and the eyes. For festivals we often opt for coconut matting which is tougher still - to withstand hordes of punters and their dancing feet.

Do you provide furniture?

  • Absolutely! We have a range of furniture on offer. For seating large numbers we offer wooden tables and benches which can fill an entire tipi, suitable for wedding receptions and the like. We also have more casual sofas, coffee tables and similar for a more relaxed “chill area” type of environment.

Do you provide a sound system?

  • We certainly do. We have a few different sound options, ranging from a smaller active Bose system - ideal for smaller events and background music - up to a 6kW Martin Audio sound system which comfortably will fill even the biggest linked tipi setups. For festivals, or parties where neighbours aren’t an issue, there is also the option of a Void system.

Can I play my own music in the tipi?

  • Yes! Our sound systems can be connected to via bluetooth or Aux cable so you can simply connect your phone and put on your personalised playlists.

How do you light a tipi?

  • Kata tipis are usually lit with a set of 9 strings of LED fairy lights which are wrapped down each main pole. In addition to this we offer a range of other lighting including parcans, LED uplighters, and exterior festoon lighting.

How long does the build take?

  • Most builds are done in one day. Builds involving several tipis or lots of extras may take two, this can be discussed during the quoting process.
